Who is your ELD Teacher?
I am Krystal Ruvalcaba-Torrez. I am so very honored to be apart of ACRMA #8! I think it's such a privilege to be here teaching and encouraging each scholar.
About Me
I was born in Pico Rivera and raised in Whittier, where I still live with my husband and 3 boys. I am a first generation immigrant from my father, he was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. My mother was born here and is a second generation immigrant. Spanish was my primary language growing up, and today I'm so glad my family has kept Spanish alive in our home. If you ever need anything, I can speak to you in Spanish and help you.
I have always loved school, even though I really had to study all the time. When I was in middle school and high school, I had to really stay focused on my studies because I was not a good reader and I knew it was a weakness of mine. I want my students to know this, because I think struggling with school is not a bad thing, it will build character and give them the ambition to succeed. When they do well they will feel self-worth and have a great sense of pride.
I love to read and cook. I think the more we read the better speakers, writers, and thinkers we become. READING EVERYDAY IS A MUST!
Experience and Education
This will be my 6th year teaching 6th grade English Language Arts. I have taught for 5 years in the East Whittier City School district. I took two years off to have my last two children. I have always loved teaching this age and the curriculum.
I attended Fullerton Junior College and graduated with my AA, then transferred to Cal State Fullerton where I got my BA in English in 2006 . In 2007- 2008 I got my teaching credential at Cal State Fullerton. In 2009 I started teaching at Hillview Middle school.
I welcome you to Alliance #8 with open arms and an eager heart---Mrs. Torrez
